Delhi’s New Chief Minister: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed the identity of its Chief Minister for Delhi. Rekha Gupta is set to take on the role of Chief Minister in Delhi.
Rekha Gupta is entering the legislative assembly for the first time. She secured her position from the Shalimar Bagh constituency with a margin exceeding 29 thousand votes. Pravesh Verma, who had been viewed as the top contender until now, put forth Rekha Gupta’s name. In the presence of central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankar at the BJP state headquarters, the MLAs endorsed Rekha Gupta as their choice. Following the BJP’s triumph on February 8, there had been discussions regarding the potential new Chief Minister, with around a dozen leaders being considered.
Reasons for Rekha Gupta’s Selection
Several factors contributed to the decision to appoint Rekha Gupta as Chief Minister. The primary reason is the emphasis on women’s representation. With the exit of a woman Chief Minister, the BJP has provided another woman the chance to lead Delhi. The competition for female voters was intense between the BJP and AAP during the elections. By elevating Rekha Gupta to the role of CM, the BJP has also delivered a significant political response to Arvind Kejriwal, who had expressed intentions to assume the Chief Minister position himself by replacing Atishi after the election victory.
